Renesas Eletronics Corp. The company developed a new technique capable of transmitting signals for WiFi and Bluetooth compatible devices completely eliminating the use of batteries. The new power supply used as the electricity produced by radio waves in the environment, a factor that expands the possibilities of using these types of signals.
Technical details of the discovery are being presented for the first time this Wednesday (June 15), VLSI Circuits Symposium during the 2011 event that occurs in the city of Kyoto.
According to the manufacturer, the applications of technology are very extensive, giving the example of a plastic tape that can be put in baby clothes, transmitting real-time user's body temperature. Another possibility is the creation of posters able to send content via Bluetooth signals for all who pass by.
Economic data transmission
To allow sending data, the company used the following method. Radio waves are transmitted from an access point for mobile handsets equipped with a resonant LC circuit capable of absorbing the information provided.
When the circuit is off, the unit switches to function as a reflector of radio waves. The ability to switch freely between the absorption and reflection of signals is leaving the news as economical and capable of completely eliminating the use of batteries to operate properly.
According to Renesas Eletronics Corp., still need to further develop the technology before it is available on a large scale. The expectation is that the first devices equipped with the new start to emerge in approximately two to three years
