Mauro Calo, Mercedes Benz demo driver will soon have a crack at drifting world record using either a E63 or C63 AMG. The location where he will attempt to beat the current record of 8,000 ft is a narrow perimeter track at Brooklands in Surrey, UK. The target is 10,000 ft or nearly 2 miles, which means he’s going to have to maintain the powersilde for 12 laps, or four minutes, in third gear, at 55 mph! A very tall order even in a car as tail-happy as the E63!
These AMG cars are actually the perfect tool for such a task. Once you switch the traction control off, the tail slides wide in every corner even on partial throttle. That’s what make them so much fun. Not particularly fast around a track, but fun. Can’t wait to see the results. Calo is 100 percent confident he can do it.
