mikefreeman reporting from London
News was coming in about a world naked bike ride in . "Wow things must be changing" I thought thinking that the news reporter was talking about Halifax in England.
I was pleased because an event would have indicated that the British are losing their inhibitions and the police were turning a blind eye to the Public Order Act and Indecent Exposure that are offences under English Law.
Then as I listened to the radio the reporter said Halifax "in Canada" and I realised that nothing had changed in sexually repressed Britain.
Then I wondered why it was so different in Canada and why Canadians were more liberal and their government more tolerant of public nudity, where a hundred or so naked bike riders rode down downtown Halifax, watched by an unfazed public.
The naked bike ride was to encourage people to get out of their cars and onto their bikes and also to remind drivers to drive safely!
The bike riders were male and female and the reactions from spectators watching ranged from cheers of encouragement to puzzled looks, while many pedestrians snapped pictures.
This event has amazed me because in England the naked riders would all have been thrown into cells, locked up for the night, to appear in court in the morning.
Why can't England be more like Canada because we have willing naked riders but repressive laws passed by an authoritarian government enforced by the Big Brother's "Thought Police?"
This proves that Canada is a lot freer than Britain!
I have just learnt that there has been a naked bike ride in London and nobody was arrested! However I think that the riders were not absolutely naked but almost naked, and to tell the truth I'm gobsmacked.
Wow! I'm even more gobsmacked now and feel a bit of a fool as I have just learnt that men and women riders were actually allowed to ride naked through London.
I should be celebrating because this proves I'm wrong and that my country isn't so bad after all!
Now after looking at YouTube videos I see that a few men had the courage to ride absolutely naked through the streets of London and I salute them.
Now the law should be altered to allow nude sunbathing in one's back garden!
