News source Elizabeth Temple KPLC Lake Charles Louisiana. Maci Fontenot 7, who defeated brain cancer and had her wish come true. Three years ago Maci went to have a routine eye examination. A few days later Maci went to the hospital after doctors discovered something wrong in her left eye.
Nikki Fontenot, Maci's mother said "They found she had a tumor behind her left eye the size of her eye ball. At that moment you know life stopped. Everything stopped...we just decided that as a family we were going to hit this head on victoriously. We didn't want to lose her."
Maci said "It was really scary...really scary."
Maci had a maligant tumor growing slowly only four millimeters from her brain.
Nikki said "it could have killed her. At that time we were fighting for her life. Then it was like we were fight for the quality of her life."
Doctors operated by opening Maci's skull and remove the tumor. After seven hours of surgery and more than 40 stitches, she was tumor free, but her recovery was going to a long road.
The Make A Wish Foundation granted Maci her wish to visit The Jonas Brothers.
Nikki said "Now there's a reason for her story. She's very in tune to other people's hurt and I think that's one of the things I love about what she's learned."
After Maci's operation Maci is legally blind in her left eye but she has perfect vision in her right eye. Maci helped plan a fundraiser called Maci's Make A Wish and Make A Difference Festival Fundraiser. The event is Saturday June 11, 2011 starting at 10am thru 2pm. For a $10 donation to the Make A Wish Foundation children and their parents can enjoy live music, food, games and other activites.
