The Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque is UAE's largest mosque and the eighth largest in the world. The biggest mosque in the world were built in Djenne the central point for Muslim worship in Mali. In this town is the largest mosque in the world called The Great Mosque. One of the oldest towns in West Africa, founded in year 800 as an important stage for the Trans-Sahara trade. The town haven’t really changed since its heydays in 14 th and 15 th century.
The majestic Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque is probably the most imposing religious and national landmark in Abu Dhabi to date. It is also arguably one of the most important architectural treasures of contemporary UAE society - and one of the most beautiful in the world - initiated no less by the late president HH Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, who is fondly thought of as the father of the UAE.
The Sheikh Zayed Mosque features 82 domes all decorated with white marble. Windows was designed exquisitely by decorated stained glass. Ninety nine names of Allah inscribed inside the main prayer room. A colossal 10-metre-wide, 15-metre-tall chandelier studded with thousands of Swarovski crystals dominates the main prayer room overlaid with the world's largest carpet. Germany, feature thousands of Swarovski crystals from Austria and some glasswork from Italy, and cost about US$8.2 million (AED 30 million).
Gulfnews also reported that in December an average 14,000 people visited the mosque daily. Some 40,000 people attended the Eid Al Adha prayers last November. The 5,627 square metre work of art handmade in Iran by 1,200 weavers weighs 47 tonnes. Continuous recitation of the Quran emanates from a fenced-in structure near the north entrance of the mosque — the final resting place of Shaikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan.
