
The Committee of the Senate Armed Services U.S. scheduled for June 9 start of the confirmation process of Leon Panetta as the next secretary of defense.
The hearing will be followed by a closed session. To achieve the approval of the nomination committee will Panetta to the full Senate.
Panetta, who since February 2009 headed the CIA (acronym in English of the Central Intelligence Agency) was nominated in late April by President Barack Obama to replace Robert Gates, who expects to retire in June.
Smooth completion confirmation, as expected, Panetta will be succeeded by Gen. David Petraeus, whose confirmation will begin in the Senate Intelligence Committee at a date to be announced.
A touch Panetta will oversee the withdrawal of troops from Afghanistan in late September and make deep budget cuts.
