Part of the intersection at 45th and Cottage Grove on the South Side of Chicago is still off limits due to a huge sinkhole in the middle of the street. Estimations of the sinkhole is about six feet wide and seven feet deep. At this time, there is no reason given as to why this happened. Police are on the scene directing traffic around the sinkhole.
However, this event brings up a significant problem throughout urban areas throughout the USA. Instead of evenly spending funds to fix up the infrastructure throughout every community, local governments only choose to allocate its funds towards fixing up the affluent neighborhoods. Thus, this allows for the middle-class and the impoverish neighborhoods to rot away. The people of middle-class and low-income neighborhoods need to learn how to take more pride in their community instead of allowing the decay to fester.
