A general view of the site of a bomb blast at a military barracks on New Year's eve

Mr. Goodluck Jonathan swearing in as the Nigeria's President for another four years has been greeted by a powerful bomb blast in the City of Bauchi. The blast which took place near the Army barracks has killed 10 people and injured 20. Some witnesses are reporting that there were three blasts. However this report has yet not been confirmed.

The explosion hit the Mamy market in the city of Bauchi late on Sunday. Since it was evening time and a holiday therefore the market was full with the people buying their houshold items. The injured were taken to hospital.

It may please be noted that in Nigeria in order to provide food, drinks and other goods to the soldiers and civilians small markets are allowed to be opened in the vicinity of the Army barracks.
