Although "American Idol" season 10 came to a good end on Wednesday, the finale was noted for some scandals and gossips regarding Lee DeWyze, winner of the last season of "American Idol". Initial reports suggested that Lee DeWyze, who was expected to present the award to season 10 winner, Scotty McCreery, was not invited to the event.
It is an "American Idol" tradition that the winner of the previous season always performs at the finale and presents the trophy to the new winner. Tweets by "American Idol" executive producer Nigel Lythgoe suggested that DeWyze had refused to present the award to Scotty McCreery in the first place.
However, "American Idol" fans were surprised to see DeWyze sitting in the fifth row at the finale on Wednesday evening, but Ryan Seacrest did not bother to give him even an on-camera mention. The crowd came to know of his presence by Cory, the show's emcee who keeps the crowd energized during the commercials.
The controversy started on Monday when DeWyze tweeted, "Hey guys, no I'm not performing at the Finale. I wasn't asked to. A lot of questions so I thought I'd fill you in."
DeWyze may have kept cool on Twitter, but his brother, Michael DeWyze, certainly lost his temper at the alleged snub.
"American idol producers have no respect... that is all... serious b.s," tweeted Michael DeWyze.
Furthermore, Michael DeWyze went on to call "American Idol" executive producer Nigel Lythgoe a "no soul scumbag."
"While u may be respectful about it i think its [expletive]," Michael tweeted to Lee.
However, some moments down the line Michael's temper cooled down and he tweeted, "People may think I'm being rude it's just very obvious when someone is being treated disrespectfully... sorry bout angry tweets. Heat of moment."
Meanwhile, it was learnt that the snub was a punishment from Lythgoe to DeWyze for refusal of the later to present the award to McCreery. It should be noted that Jennifer Lopez presented the winning trophy to McCreery instead.
Lythgoe tweeted on Thursday, "I was so upset Lee DeWyze wouldn't present the winners trophy to Scotty. Especially as he's been on the show this Season. I guess he was shy."
DeWyze, whose first album received mixed appraisals, seemed to take the cold shoulder in stride when he tweeted on Wednesday about his excitement, "Headed to show Finale. Can't wait to see all the good people over at Idol again, should be fun. Thanks for all the love guys, see ya soon :)."
He was seen with a guest as he walked the red carpet. He greeted his fans in a very friendly and generous way and was able to strongly give out the impression that he was delighted to be among the "Idol" alumni.
