President Barack Obama and his wife Michelle met withWilliam and his wife Kate during his state visit to Britain , Buckingham Palace said.
Obama's family met with the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge in an informal setting just before the official welcome from Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip at Buckingham Palace.
The conversation with the brand new royal couple, who recently returned from the Seychelles after a honeymoon of ten days, was not part of's initial itinerary .
The presidential couple did not attend the actual wedding , so that the visit gave them the opportunity to personally congratulate the newlyweds.
The Obama came to Britain on Monday night, just the third state visit of President of the United States to British territory for 100 years. His trip comes as U.S. and Britain cooperated closely in discussions on topics ranging from Libya to Afghanistan, the fight against terrorism and the peace process in the Middle East.
