Sixties British pop star Kathydied at the age of 70 on Friday May 19. A statement simply stated that Kirby died suddenly.
She was bornO’Rouke on October 20, 1940 in Exxex, England. She made her first appearance at age three, winning a talent contest. Kirby expected to sing opera, but instead began by performing with big band music with Bert Ambrose.
Kirby rose to fame after placing second place in the Eurovision Song Contest in 1965. Kirby “officially” retired shortly after performance to celebrate the Silver Jubilee for Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. In 1963, Kirby appeared numerous times on the television series “Stars and Garters” and later had her own show – “Kathy Kirby Sings”. In her day, Kathy Kirby was one of the highest paid female singers in the United Kingdom.
Kirby was often referred to as “the blonde bombshell” and “the BritishMonroe”.
For the past several years, Kirby has lived a quiet life out of the spotlight.
