A northeastern Pennsylvania judge has ordered reality TV starto pay a hefty sum of more than $10,000 to a local marriage therapist in a dispute over counseling.
Lafair, a Pennsylvania-based marriage counselor, sued the octo-mom Kate Gosselin over an unpaid bill. Considering the claims of Sylvia Lafair, the Berks County mom of eight was ordered by Luzerne County district judge, Gerald Feissner, to pay the due amount of $10,476 to the marriage counselor for her provided counseling services and traveling expenses in 2009.
The whole story behind the lawsuit, as claimed by Sylvia Lafair, the president of Creative Energy Options, says that she was requested to provide marriage counseling services in 2009 by then-couple, Jon and Kate Gosselin. As the relationship between the two was amidst the whirlwind of problems, Jon and Kate Gosselin asked Sylvia Lafair to fly out to Los Angeles to help them.
It has been claimed by Lafair that she had entered into a verbal contract with the duo that they will be responsible for providing her with compensation of traveling charges and her counseling services. However, things didn't turn out fortunate for Lafair, as once she got to California, Kate Gosselin refused to pay her airfare and travel fees.
Though, Sylvia Lafair sent her bills to both Jon and Kate Gosselin, but neither of them sent a dime to clear her dues. When the agreement never came to pass, Sylvia Lafair decided to take the matter legally to court and sued Kate Gosselin last year for her unpaid dues.
While speaking in her own defense, the former "Dancing with the Stars" contestant Kate Gosselin took stand this month and testified that she never had a contract with Sylvia Lafair, who leads the organization in White Haven, Pa., 50 miles away from Gosselin's place in Sinking Spring.
The reality mom Kate Gosselin also stated that it wasn't couples' counseling, it was Jon's counseling. She added that she had hired her own private marriage counselor to help her out through the tough marital situations and public breakup. Actually, Lafair's services had been rendered only to.
Despite her testimony, the judge's decision went with Sylvia Lafair and the court ordered Kate Gosselin to clear up her bills. It has been reported that Kate Gosselin's attorney, Kimberly Borland, filed an appeal against the ruling on Tuesday.
The pair starred in "Jon and Kate Plus 8" before divorcing, which later became "Kate Plus 8". In December 2009, the couple was divorced after publicly announcing their split on the June 22, 2009 episode of "Jon & Kate Plus 8".
