It seems that the latest Dossier cover featuring Andrej Pejic is causing some discomfort as two leading U.S. bookstores have asked the front cover to be censored

Andrej Pejic is a pretty young man, but some people are not able to understand that and have asked the latest Dossier cover, featuring Andre, to be censored. The latest cover of Dossier features Andrej Pejic wearing a white button-down shirt, with the front buttons open. He is also wearing a bit of make-up in the picture and has curls in his hair. So basically, when you first see the cover, you think that there is a female who is topless.

When Barnes and Nobles and Borders, two of the leading bookstores of America, asked Dossier to censor the image, it really came as a shock for the owners of the magazine. The co-founder and creative director of Dossier, Skye Parrott told the press, "We knew that this cover presented a very strong, androgynous image, and that could make some people uncomfortable. That's partly why we chose it. I guess it has made someone pretty uncomfortable!”

Both Barnes and Nobles and Borders have demanded that the Dossier issue featuring Andrej Pejic come covered in opaque covers. Not only are these bookstores censoring the image, they are asking Dossier to provide the cost of the covers. Even though the bookstores have been informed of Andrej Pejic’s gender, they are still insisting on having the image censored - pointing out that he looks more of a naked woman than a man.

Skye Parrot explained how it is only the American stores which have asked Dossier for the cover-ups. She added that there are naked men featured on the covers of magazine all the time, so why should Dossier have to face the brunt alone? But she later said that she understood why this has happened and the only reason was that it made people uncomfortable. The cover featuring Andrej Pejic plays with the idea of gender roles and that is what makes some people uncomfortable. If you look at the body of Andrej Pejic, then you know that it is a man, but when you look at the face, it seems like that of a woman and one can easily get confused.

Andrej Pejic is a Serbian-born catwalk model, who is 19-years old. He has appeared in various shows including that of Givenchy and Jean Paul Gaultier.
