“A Celebration of Life…Walk to Remember”
The Compassionate Friends is the largest self-help bereavement organization in the world and offers friendship and understanding to families that have experienced the death of a child of any age and from any cause. There are nearly 600 chapters in the United States. The local walk is being held in conjunction with The Compassionate Friends National Walk/Conference in Arlington, VA where more than 1,000 are expected to walk.
Locally, walk coordinators are expecting more than 300 participants. They will meet at Lemon Lake and will walk the park trail. The walk begins at 12:00 noon Sunday July 24th and includes a beautiful butterfly release! Following the walk, participants are encouraged to stay for Joe Klapak’s beautiful music along with delicious hamburgers, hotdogs, and lemonade!
“Whether someone walks a mile or a couple hundred feet is not important,” says chapter leader, Carol Castaneda. “What is important is that we have taken this time to join with family and friends who care that an important person, a child, is missing from our lives. We are joining with bereaved families and friends walking in unity in states across our country to remember all children who died too soon, no matter their age.”
Park fees will be waived this year…but! You will be required to hand the gatekeeper the following information. You can print a pass on our website or write on a small paper indicate the following: (Date) July 24th 2011, (Organization) TCF, (Lemon Lake Location) Shelter #5, and (Attendee) clearly sign your name. If you follow these instructions you will avoid paying a park entrance fee!
“A Celebration of Life…Walk to Remember” is a beautiful memorial event to honor the memory of our precious children who are no longer with us. It is also our chapter’s only fundraiser with 100% of the generated revenue being used to off set the cost of printing newsletters, postage, brochures/cards, new member handouts, and our Candle Lighting event that takes place in December, says Chapter Leader Carol Castaneda.
Registration fee is $5.00 at the park. Anyone wishing to order a T-shirt ($15.00) or a butterfly ($10.00) may contact Carol Castaneda prior to the cut-off date. T-Shirt orders must be received by July 15th and butterfly orders must be received by July 20th. You may also make a butterfly donation in memory of a loved one to be included in our mass release. For further information about the walk or TCF Lake-Porter County Chapter may call Chapter Leader, Carol Castaneda at (219) 662-0902.
We hope you are able to join us this year as we walk in spirit and in loving memory of our children. Thank you for your support!
