On Wednesday, police scoured the neighborhood near Oceanside's Libby Lake Park for clues as to the reason two teenagers had been fatally shot upon finding the bodies of a 16-year old boy and a 14-year old girl. By Thursday, the victims were identified as Fernando Felix Solano, 16, and Sandra Salgado, 14, both of Oceanside, police said.
Police were dispatched to the neighborhood near Libby Lake Park about 10:13 p.m. Tuesday to investigate possible gunshots upon reports from area residents stating that between 4 - 6 gunshots had been heard fired. Police then found the victims’ bodies in the 400 block of Calle Montecito approximately 15 minutes later, authorities familiar with the matter said.
Fernando Felix Solano lived in the Mesa Margarita neighborhood in northeast Oceanside where the shooting occurred. Sandra Salgado lived elsewhere in Oceanside. Mesa Margarita is an Oceanside neighborhood where gang violence has plagued for years, although it is not yet known if gangs played a part in Tuesday night’s shootings.
