Most shoes protect our feet from stepping in or on the wrong thing. But what about stepping in the wrong way? The iShoe, developed by scientist Erez Lieberman, does exactly that. The insole incorporates pressure-senitive technology to gauge weight distribution on different areas of the foot. Lieberman has developed the first alogorithm that can make sense of that data and logically predict what health concerns might arise from improper posture. This technology has the potential to help people, particularly the elderly, avoid osteoperosis, balance problems, and possibly fatal falls.
The technology was initially developed to help NASA astronauts with balance problems after returning to earth from space missions. Astronauts who had trouble re-adjusting to an environment governed by gravity could wear the iShoe, which could report diagnostic data about their pedal posture to doctors. In the same way, patients or people who have balance concerns can implement the shoe to save their health.
