Thousands at funeral of Indian spiritual leader

Almost half a million people had gathered in the town of Puttaparthi for the funeral of the deceased Indian spiritual leader Sri Sathya Sai Baba.

Sai Baba was buried, unlike most Hindus, who are usually cremated.

Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Congress leader Sonia Gandhi had been amongst the thousands of mourners who had been paying their respects to the guru.

Sai Baba had been buried with full state honours inside the public hall in the ashram in Puttaparthi.
