I went for a ride with an old friend on Easter Monday and climbed the hills away up and beyond Smithers, B.C. My friend hoped we could find a large flock of migrating cranes that often congregate on some upland meadows nearby. We were out of luck. BUT..it was a fine spring afternoon and we saw many cows with calves in fields going green again after an awful long winter. We saw lots of small hawks intent on mice in newly revealed meadows. We saw calving sheds busy with straw and sandy paliminos with foals attendant. We saw the valley turning green again and upland snows struggling to become streams and lakes. Barns..and bulls..and buckboards.

Winter is over!

Please enjoy some of the photos in the images gallery to enjoy the same day I did!

Spring! The ravens are nesting and harassing the bald eagles that stray too close. The frogs sing a chorus each night. The swallows have returned to provide free bug control. Skeins and skeins of black brant are honking their way north. Thanks for the scenes.

Thanks Barb..I'm sure many didn't get what I was trying to say. YOU did! Here's a reprise...

The irony is rich..like a second crop of hay in the meadows?
