Special Lectures on Fukushima Power Plant is Intended to Inform International Students

The Hokkaido University held a free lecture in English on the “Health Effects of Radiation and Role of Media” on April 26, 2011, 6:00 P.M.-8:00 P.M. at Hokkaido University Conference Hall. This symposium was sponsored by The Office of International Affairs, The Sapporo Area University International Exchange Forum, and Sapporo International Communication Plaza Foundation; and the second lecture on the Fukushima Power Plant hosted by the International Student Center. The first lecture was held April 11th 2011, presenting the latest information of the power plant. These series of lectures were intended to inform the international students of the university, and for them to be sensible of the present situation.

The second lecture dealt on the effects of radiation on human health, food safety in Sapporo and the role of media. Invited speakers from different faculties of the university and Hokkaido government talked about different issues on health, food safety and monitoring in Sapporo, and international and local media responses to Fukushima.

The symposium ended with questions from the audience, composed mostly of international students, and professors, from different faculties of the university.
