Former SS Doctor Albert Heim, known to have tortured Jews with exceptionally cruel methods during World War II, is still likely to be alive in Chile, concluded a five day fact finding mission conducted by the Simon Wiesenthal Centre. The now 94 year-old doctor fled Germany in 1964 before law enforcement could arrest him for his infamous crimes in Nazi Germany.
Heim is known to have tortured and killed prisoners in Mauthausen concentration camp during World War II. Among his crimes were amputations without anesthetic and direct injections of petrol and poison into his victims' hearts.
With a $495,000 reward offered by German and Austrian governments, authorities predict that a capture will be made in less than a month.
