Be sure and tune in to Rock Talk on CBS Radio, Tuesday, April 19th and hear the highly acclaimed Rock Girl, Allison Hayes, rock about animal rescue with the popular Doggie Moms and promoter, musician, radio show host and animal activist Andy Troy.
Extremely involved and passionate about animal rescue, Hayes’ love for all creatures dates back to her childhood. Raised on a large working farm in a rural area of Bucks County, Pa., Hayes grew up rescuing animals and nursing them back to health.
“We lived way out in the country and there were not a lot of other people around,” explains Hayes. “So I made the animals my friends. I would bring home every wounded or abandoned animal that came across my path. My father was a doctor and he would fix them up and I would nurse them back to health. If they from the wild, I would release them and if they were domestic animals in need of a home, my mom would let me keep them, as long as I promised to take care of them. My love for animals has remained constant. I do fund raisers and I have rescued numerous animals over the years. In fact, I currently have a number of cats with special needs and, of course, my dog Rudy.
It was at a fund raiser that Hayes met Andy Troy and they hit it off immediately.
“We share a number of the same passions,” says Hayes, “especially helping to take animals from rags to riches. Some of the stories about abandoned or abused pets are heartbreaking. You just can’t image. Andy wrote and produced a video that Rudy and I were in with other pets showing the difference that care and hope can bring to some of these unfortunate animals.”
The stars of the reality TV show the “Doggie Moms” also share the same sentiments. Their pets definitely showcase the rags to riches title. But there is far more to these women that just pampering their animals to the utmost. They have a lot of heart too, working tirelessly to give back to the community, raising money for local animal shelters and other charities. Some have even prepared their pets to be therapy dogs to comfort the sick and the elderly.
