Unique November

Unique November

Words slipped

From memories

Searching a lost dream,

That unrepeatable dream.

The grief was coiled inward,

Poisoning our love.

It was a dance,

A last waltz.

Our souls, still entwined,

Tried to keep our bodies

Our clay

Erratically moved,

In searching help.

A crying arose

Between us.

It was like

The sonority

Of crushing everything.

I was only a woman,

I understood everything.

You were my man,

But there was nothing

Between us

The unsaid words

Pricked my tongue and palate,

Remaining shackled inside.

You looked at me.

In your eyes

I tried to see again

Our November,

I did not see anything,

Maybe I could not see,

Maybe you were opaque.

I did not actually know.

I know nothing even now,

As I did not know

Even then,

I only knew that I must leave.

They told me to do this.

They had the power.

I prayed all my life to Jesus

For the light

For the truth

And for faith....
