Rape of Iman al-Obeidi Fits the Low Standard Moammar Gaddafi Sets for His Men

Iman al-Obeidi, the Tripolian woman who sparked international outrage when she was arrested in front of journalists at a hotel, has spoken for the first time about her ordeal at the hands of officials including a cousin of Gadaffi.

Iman said when she went to the hotel, she had escaped from officials after days of being raped, sodomized and had alcohol poured over her orifices. She also had open wounds which were defecated and urinated on.

Now living with her sister, Iman visits the prosecutor general’s office daily hoping of justice. She says that people “come up to me in the street when they know I am Iman al-Obeidi and tell me they admire my courage”.
