Arizona is among 24 other states that allows colleges and universities to make policies in regard to carrying guns on campus.
The UA campus in Tucson will now come under SB 1467 that was passed by the Arizona legislature. The final version of the bill requires state community colleges and universities to allow both concealed and openly carried weapons in their public rights of way. The new law was approved by a vote of 33-24.
Sponsors of SB 1467 believe that it would improve campus safety while others such as University of Arizona president Robert Shelton opposed the carrying of firearms on campus.
