South Korean conglomerates, OCI Corporation (OCI Group) to invest U.S. $ 205 million (RM615 million) to build a plant in Banting, Selangor for producing silicon metal in the production of solar cells.

OCI Group, through its subsidiaries, Elpion Co Ltd. and companies registered in Malaysia, Elpion Sdn. Bhd.. responsible for building the plant, said Managing Director Elpion Malaysia, Lee Jae-cheong.

He said the factory was built on the land area of ​​445.5 square meters (0045 hectares) and is expected to be completed on schedule in January 2014.

"At first, the plant will only produce silicon metal for export to Korea for the production of solar cells," he said.
