So far we've dealt with some of the politicians, prostitutes and police officers that are involved in Lexington's sex trafficking industry. I've detailed my history and how I got involved in solving the murder of Deborah Wardlaw. Just prior to becoming an Examiner, I ran for city council in 2010 to bring attention to the corruption and government ties to the human trafficking industry. My campaign wound up being a catalyst to more information filling in the pieces of the puzzle. I will now introduce you to the members, the enablers and the customers of the Big Blue Mafia.
I had never run for public office before so this was something I thought I'd better prepare extensively for. I decided to investigate each of the candidates for Council-At-Large so I would know what I was up against. Surprisingly enough, I found out that one of the candidates was a defendant in the Micro-City government case. This candidate was George Brown.
The Fayette Alliance sponsored a debate at the Lexington Public Library for Council-At-Large candidates. This was my first opportunity to confront George Brown about his involvement in the pedophile case. As any good reporter, or someone falsely accused many times, I had a micro-recorder on my person. (Audio recordings cannot be added to articles here on Examiner but I will provide the file to anyone who contacts me)
Chris: Is it true that you are a defendant in the Micro-City government case?
George Brown: Yes, why are you asking?
Chris: I just heard about it and was curious.
George Brown: You better not bring that up in the debate.
Chris: I can bring up anything I want, that's why it's called a debate.
George Brown: It wouldn't be good to bring that up.
Chris: Why not?
George Brown: I got people.
Chris: What kind of people?
George Brown: You don't want to know.
This debate would later get even more interesting when it came time for me to tell my story. I announced at the forum that the city and police allowed 'special' escort agencies to exist and even made money off of them. I then asked Chuck Ellinger why he never acted, as required by law btw, when presented with evidence of the murder of an escort agency owner in 1999. This was all recorded by several different entities.
What didn't get on tape was after the forum, I spoke with Chuck Ellinger. While discussing corruption, I brought up Will McGinnis a former prostitution based escort agency owner. Chuck replies, "I know Will, he's a good friend of mine." I ask, "You know he owned an escort agency when he ran for mayor, don't you?" Chuck replies,"Yes, he's been a friend of mine since school. In fact I've been advising him on his case." Will is suing the city of Lexington for 6.5 million dollars because police found cocaine in his 'adult' club and arrested him.
Not only did he verify my claim that some city government members are cozy with some members of organized crime, which is what prostitution agencies are. But, let's not forget about the conflict of interest in being on the city council and helping a former 'pimp' sue the city.
Following my question to Ellinger, the hostess/emcee of the event tried to take away my microphone before my time limit was up. I continued until the technician turned my microphone off. I still had time on my limit so I just talked as loud as I could and finished telling my story, as the other candidates had been aloud.
Remember the Lexington Herald-Leader's statement about my accusations during the campaign?
"We also can't endorse Christopher Hignite, whose accounts of high and low crimes and corruption in Lexington might make a film noir screenplay but don't recommend him for a seat on the council."
Let's re-cap.
Some of the victims suing Micro-City Government allege Lexington Fayette Urban County Government Officials & Mayors ran a child sex-ring. The victims allege racketeering, interstate transport of minors for sex, etc.
