MIRPUR: Muhammad Hafeez shone with bat and bowl as Pakistan stormed into the semifinal of the ICC World Cup after thrashing hapless West Indies by 10 wickets at Mirpur, Bangladesh on Wednesday.
Hafeez struck 61 off 64 bowls andmade 47 off 61 as Pakistan chased down the paltry total in overs.
Earlier, batting first, West Indies were bundled out by’s men for just 112 in 43.3 overs.
Spinners, Shahid Afridi,, and Muhammad Hafeez bagged eight wickets between them to drown the Caribbean side.
Pacer Umer Gul got the big scalp of dangerous(8) in his second over to dent West Indies hope for a good start.
Muhammad Hafeez, who opened the bowling attack with Gul, struck twice in his third over to remove opener(7) and DM Bravo (0).
Skipper Afridi snared four wickets in 9.3 overs to take his tally to 21, surpassing's tally of 18 wickets in the 1992 edition.
Experienced duo, Chanderpaul and Sarwan, tried to build some sort of partnership. But as they started to lift the scoring rate, Afridi struck again and eliminated Sarwan, who made 24 off 68 bowls.
His wicket sparked a collapse. Kieron Pollard (1) and DC Thomas (O) fell quickly to the bowling of Pakistani skipper in the next over.
Recalled Saeed Ajmal also joined the party, sending West Indian skipper Darran Sammy and D Bosho back to dressing room in his 4th over.
Kemar Roach was the next to go. He gave away his wicket toon 16 off 43 bowls.
Ravi Rampal was the last man to go, clean bowled by Afridi.
Veteran Chanderpaul remained not out on 44 off 106 bowls. NEWS24
