The prince had met a man whose wife and his two children had been swept to their death in the town of Toowoomba.
He had also visited the towns of Ipswich and Grantham in the south-east part of Queensland which had been flooded.
He will be also traveling towards southern Australia to see the flood-hit areas in the city of Victoria.
Prince William had been reported by an aide to be extremely moved by the stories which he had heard while on the trip to the state.
In the town of Grantham he had met resident Ian Pinkerton who had told the prince how he had watched helplessly while his neighbours had been swept away.
People had turned out during the torrential rain in order to meet the prince, who had been treated to a short performance of "" by children that were from a local school.
Then he moved on towards Toowoomba where the prince had met grieving families during a country music event which had been aimed at lifting the people's spirits.
