At 5pm Friday night, March 18, 2011, Public School Employees (PSE) hosted a classy party for the Bethel School District'sEmployees at Spanaway Jr High School.
Many Bethel administrators, a couple board members, PSE state president and leaders, Bethel Chapter’s own Board of Trustees, Pierce County Community Big Band, along with a cute little bunch of Brownies/Juniors joined many classified employees from different classifications, at the event.
Classified employees in attendance included custodians, secretaries/clerks, maintenance, mechanics, bus drivers and bus assistants, para educators, and child nutrition staff.
The PSE Bethel Chapter’s President Eileen McDonough opened the event with thanks to everyone, allowing time for state lobbyist Doug Nelson, to speak on the budget and other issues. Next, Eileen handed the mic to Bethel School District’s Superintendent Tom Seigel, who thanked the employees for their work with kids and the other staff for their diligent support.
After a classy buffet style dinner of several salads, croissant, French bread, and tortilla roll sandwiches, veggie/fruit trays, cake, and punch--the Bethel PSE Executive Board Secretary, Nicole Flournoy, emceed the rest of the event.
This year employees nominated two Classified Employees of the Year. Vera Wright and Lauren Austin both won the honor, with Nicole accepting Vera’s award in her absence, due to illness. Vice president Ed Ammons, and treasurer,Vitale were on hand to give out PSE recognition of service certificates and pins.
As tradition holds, just about everyone went home with a gift from the raffle ticket drawing pulled at the end of the event. Movie baskets, coffee gift cards, rubber stamp sets, a blanket, and PSE memorabilia were some of the items given away as each number was drawn.
