Amanda Knox said she was drugged when she killed Meredith Kercher

Like Goncalo Armaral's "The Truth of the Lie", regarding the case of Madeleine McCann, Fisher's book illuminates regarding key aspects and agents in the Amanda Knox case in Perugia, Italy.

I have had the honor to receive a digital copy of the nearly 350 page text from Bruce Fisher, author of Injustice in Perugia: a book detailing the wrongful conviction of Amanda Knox & Raffaele Sollecito

On finishing the manuscript, I can say that the case for "Injustice in Perugia" has been made: Fully, compellingly, and clearly.

Notwithstanding ad hominem attacks on his character by his critics, Mr. Fisher has written poignantly and with full factual evidence.

He has uncovered the bias inherent in Mignini's "sex game gone wrong" theory, and has exposed it as the shared delusion of Mignini and Judge Matteini. Although his critics charge him with writing a polemic, Fisher's text is a clear expository and argumentative treatise based on evidence which is meticulously laid out and thoroughly delved into.

Not an indictment of the Italian judicial system, Fisher's text is an actual cry for justice on behalf of all who have been wrongly accused and convicted - indeed, he uses these words in the book's opening dedication.

We know that false accusations and convictions belong to no country and are not limited to any culture: They happen everywhere. It is the folly of specific investigators, actual media venues, and the darkness and bigotry which reside within the human heart which are at fault, and which form the impetus for the social media flames which fan out of control.

Fisher's text takes from the initial investigation, to the point at which it ought to have shifted radically: With the arrest of Mr. Guede. That it did not bespeaks how deeply-rooted was Mignini's theory; one might say he suffered from an idee fixe: and this fixed idea was able to translate itself to investigators, legal persons, and the media, until it took on a life of its own.

In this sense, Mignini is a formidable man: We have seen how strong is his power to persuade, and how his paranoia about the darkness which encroaches on traditional culture transmits itself deeply. Mignini is a sympathetic character, culturally. But in the legal sense, he has spawned a judicial travesty. One of the most important aspects of Injustice in Perugia: Fisher delves into the infamous "Monster of Florence " case (and Prosecutor Giuliano Mignini's even more infamous part in it), in which author Douglas Preston became ensnared, and no less than 20 persons were unfairly indicted. Although Mignini's claims were ultimately dismissed, the damage was done, and Fisher has expertly given us to understand that Mignini has a history of being unable to retract his odd theories, once made public. That he was found to be subject to mania in his thinking on so prominent a case ought to give us stern pause. History has a way of repeating itself in persons and in events, and Mignini is not exempt from such a cycle. The possibility that all which came after was symptom, consequence, incident of an original and ill-conceived theorizing cannot be ignored. This is worrisome, in the extreme.

Fisher brings another aspect into focus involving the media circles which swirl around the Knox case: That the career ambitions of certain persons feed off the idea of Knox's guilt. This is understandable: many writers can relate here. But there comes a point at which a false theory and a biased investigation leading to the destruction of two young lives - on top of the initial life lost, that of the worthy victim, Ms. Kercher, for whom everyone must have sympathy and sorrow - must be seen for the unethical venture it is, and must be called a miscarriage of justice.

Mystery colors the personae of Knox and Sollecito, and some of it may be of their own making, inadvertently, and likely from a mix of youthful inexperience and plain quirkiness. But there is grave danger in projecting too much into their images, and Mr. Fisher admirably shines a flood light on the actuality of an investigation gone rather terribly wrong, and with profound consequences. It is not simply error upon error which infuriates, but the fact that evidence was made to fit a pre-existing theory that was spun mainly out of thin air, and Fisher makes this point relentlessly and boldly. In a black and white photo of Ms. Knox on page 171 of Fisher's book, Amanda's eyes look wistfully at the camera, the soft focus making her face appear pale and school- girlish as she smiles shyly for the camera. It is a pre-Perugia Amanda, and one is given stern pause at just what the consequences of Mignini's theorizing have been. Fisher makes it clear that Knox and Sollecito were never wavering on their alibis until after relentless interrogation. This is a point which has been too often overlooked : I know I missed it in my own initial surmising on the case.

Further, in Chapter 14 Fisher makes a strong case for the virtual contamination, by law enforcement, of key aspects and items within the crime scene. Improper procedural and collection methods, carelessness as to swab collecting, and the failure to change gloves are among numerous charges of an almost deliberate incompetence.

All in all, Bruce Fisher has shined the light of empirical analysis on the facts of the Knox case, and not only does the guilty verdict in December 2009 come up wanting, but anyone in possession of the facts can no longer believe that the conviction of Amanda Knox and Raffaele Sollecito is anything but a mistake, and a profoundly tragic one, which cries out to be rectified.

Thank you SMKovalinsky for this insightful review.

The Italian nation needs to stand up and hold their public officials accountable for their actions. It's taking too long.

Thank you, Joseph. Agreed!

It is time to Stop the Insanity and let these two innocent people go home where they belong.
Posted By SMKovalinsky SMKovalinsky | about 2 years ago
Yes, it is. For a long time I was among the believers in their guilt, but that was before I had had the chance to see all the factual analyses and understand the real nature of what unfolded. Thank you for reading and commenting.

So Bruce Fisher must have been in the court room for the 11 month trial and speaks italian? Either that or he's regurgitating the same evidence that everyone else saw and passes himself off as an expert. Because he passes himself off as an authority in the case, thousands of gullible americans believe him. Anyway, I would really like to know what credibility this guy has to talk about the case. Barbie nadeu is more of an authority on this case than Bruce Fisher or Steve Moore. Why did she lie about where she was that night? why did, after her boyfriend didnt back up her alibi, did she then not only admit to being at the scene of the crime, but that her former boss was the one that killed her? innocent people do not do these things. any explanation as to why an innocent would do that?

Sorry, her and her boyfriend are absolutely guilty

Absolutely, there was something askew about Knox and Sollecito as regards their behavior. I myself disliked them intensely in the start, and thought them guilty. I also have a soft spot for Mignini, and admire him. I am a reluctant witness for their innocence. I liked viewing them as guilty. But it is the old case of "the beautiful theory which was slain by an ugly fact." Empirically, there is no hard evidence. Fisher may not be as you want him to be, but he lines up the facts. He is an expert in the sense that he knows how to sift through factual data, and is amazingly organized in doing so. I admire and like him. I myself speak classical Latin, but does this give me more insight into jurisprudence? The Hendry analysis, for me, took the Knox and Sollecito right out of the equation, and as Fisher says, turned this into a tragic but boring home burglary turned murder. Reality is dull and things are not what they appear to be. Thank you for reading and responding.

Why are you relying on the words of people who dont know any more about this case then you or I do? Why dont you get your information from italian sources and not from people that only saw the evidence second hand?

Meredith's parents saw evidence that you and I did not, and firmly believe that she is guilty. Are you going to tell me that they are wrong? I'm going to go with meredith's parents in addition to the evidence. I believe that all three of them are guilty as the evidence points out, and I believe that people like Steve Moore and Fisher are out to make money and get attention. It's sick. you still havent answered my question as to who the hell bruce fisher is other than a conspiracy theorist with time on his hands

So your saying that in the Kercher's grief, they didnt have the intellectual or cognetive ability to understand the evidence presented. I find that highly offensive. I would love to believe that Amanda is not guilty, but the evidence, in addition to her behavior, her obviously lying as to why she framed her boss and why she cant remember details, all tells me that she's guilty. I dont believe this girl is as stupid as she is portraying herself to be. What she is trying to do is wiggle her way out of a very serious situation. she's very bright and educated and know's what she is doing. I appologize if I sounded rude

1. I do not know Mr. Fisher personally. Contrary to what anyone may say or think, I am NOT paid to review him, and am receiving NO favors from him (I have not even told him that I have a book coming out on Amazon, NOT about Knox.)
2. I do not believe Fisher need know how to speak Italian to do a thorough analysis of the factual data. He has done an excellent job, thus I approached HIM, and wrote on the case and his book. He does not know me, either. Our connection was via MY email to him.
3. I think Ms. Kercher's family, understandably, believed what the courts set forth based on the original Mignini theory. In their profound pain, they could scarcely do anything else. I feel profound sympathy and empathy for both Meredith and her family. But I think Meredith walked in on a burglary in progress, and there was one burglar, Rudy Guede. Does this make her death any less tragic? I think NOT.

You guys are also doing far more damage to Amanda's cause then good. I take offense at a lot of the people painting her off to be almost retarded. Someone so easily confused and impressionable, that she just wandered into a bad situation and was at the wrong place at the wrong time. Someone who is so easily confused, that she tried to frame her own boss. Sorry, Amanda is a Jesuit educated college student. Therefore, she knew exactly what she was doing. Her boyfriend was an engineering student. My point is that neither of them are morons and both of them knew exactly what they were doing. Amanda is a manipulative sociopath, who if she wasnt attractive, was male, or black....none of you would care, certainly not steve moore and certainly not Mr.Fisher

Doug: I revised my comments above, so re-read as re Fisher et al. Personally I would like Amanda more if she were male and black. I make no excuses for her. But the evidence is not there. I hold to the standard of reasonable doubt. No, she is not dumb. She is highly, highly intelligent. Yes, she is pretty, but who cares? I was as pretty at her age. Yes, she gave Patrick's name, but it was under interrogation. Too many of these things yield bizarre confessions and we all know too well the memories which suddenly come forth under those conditions. Amanda's were extreme. I never wanted to think her innocent. I was forced to. I am not "an Amanda groupie". I simply found Hendry and Fisher to be the end of the road for the 3 killers theory. Thus, I think Knox and Sollecito, as ALL who are wrongfully convicted, should receive justice.

Well, we'll just have to disagree. I believe she has a slim to none chance at winning her appeal. I also believe that she wont spend the entire 30 years in prison as she should

No offense taken, I am not sure if the Kerchers had the wherewithal, in their horrible grief, to question anything, but maybe so. I assume they trusted the officials, and I would never, ever presume to judge them in their grief. The Massei Report to me, was very, very suspicious. I was extremely disappointed in its conclusion arguments.

What is your book about?
Posted By SMKovalinsky SMKovalinsky | about 2 years ago
It is about a gay teen who was bullied at school, and had to leave high school his first week, who went on to become a performer. It is a non-fictional account, called "Chasing the Flame: A Gay Narrative in Photographs". They said on Perugia Murder File that I must surely be either being paid by Mr. Fisher, or looking for him to endorse my book. Totally UNtrue, as he was not made aware of my book, and never offered me any money. As stated, I approached him. Mignini's premise seems to be taken as a valid presupposition in the Massei Report, and together with this, the Hendry analysis, and Fisher's book, I turned around on my opinion.
Posted By dougclement dougclement | about 2 years ago
hendry and fisher both never been to the crime scene. the jury and the judge were. they were walked through it in fact. why would you take the word of someone who never been there? it's lunacy. by the way, your book sounds very interesting..lol
Posted By SMKovalinsky SMKovalinsky | about 2 years ago
Thank you re the book. It is not so much a "taking the word of" as once valid doubt has been cast, and the lone wolf scenario shown to be a real possibility, it is all over - by American jurisprudence standards of reasonable doubt.
