KLFY.com reports from Lafayette Louisiana. The Lafayette Police Department along with the Lafayette Parish Sheriff's Office (LPSO) wii be conducting an OWI checkpoint on Thursday March 17, 2011 which is St. Patrick's Day between 9pm and 3am within the incorporated areas of Lafayette Louisiana.

The purpose of the checkpoint is to remove drunk drivers and drivers under the influence of drugs off the streets if caught with drugs or being drunk.

Officers working the checkpoints will enforce the Zero Tolerance Rule which states any driver who is under the influence or drugs will be punished severely.

It is recommended that anyone who is going to drink on Saint Patrick's Day to designate a sober driver. Punishments for being caught with alcohol and drugs can be sent to jail and face severe fines.
