Lonely women are always easy targets for those who have mastered the art of churning out lies that appear to be the truth. But 44-year old Simon Reid of Plymouth got caught through an online blog and is now in custody of the police on charges of cheating.
Simon’s sob story was one that had the ability to bring tears to anyone’s eyes – he introduced himself to some s an international businessman, to another as an Olympic level rock climber and to a third as a drugs counselor. He also said that his father was terminally ill and on life support system in a hospital and his son was a helicopter pilot of the RAF who lost his legs in the Afghanistan war. Fabricating such imaginary stories and preying upon the womanly sentiments, Simon managed to swindle 17,000 pounds sterling from one woman. Then he prevailed on another to pay for his holidays and on a third to finance the refurnishing of his house.
However, one of the women got suspicious and searched the internet for his name – and she came across a blog in which one of his earlier victims had written about him and his methods. The woman then contacted the blog writer and together they unearthed others who had been his victims. The women then hatched a plan to confront him one by one and record the ensuing conversations separately. Armed with the evidence, they called in the police and handed Simon over to them.
