Russia Holds Emergency Meeting On Japan Disaster Effects

Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin

Russia has held an emergency meeting on the disaster in Japan to make sure it is prepared for any effects on its own people. Prime Minister Valerie Putin said natural gas projects along the coastline facing Japan should be speeded up.

Putin said the region may be facing long term leaks from the damaged Japanese reactors, Ria Novosti reported.

“We should act faster on our plans to develop gas projects in the Far East, including the Sakhalin-3 project,” Putin said. “All services should be on alert for any possible scenario.”

There also has been talk of using an undersea cable connecting the two countries to deliver power.

There has been a rush on iodide pills, a form of iodine believed to slow or block the intake of radiation through the thyroid glance. Scientists say they are of limited value. Russian units on Sakhalin and the Kurile Islands have developed plans for an evacuation should it become necessary.

Although the two nations have long been at odds over disputes involving several islands, Russia appears to be putting them aside for now.

Hey Business is business. Even the Russians know this.

I also believe this means Russia is tending to become a citizen of the world. For how long I have no idea.

Perhaps it is a humanitarian effort rather than just business. Everyone feels for Japan right now

This afternoon, a Russian lady, who married to a Japanese man told me that RED WINE is the best remedy against radiation, as my Italian friend told me yesterday. When Chernobyl incident occurred, even French children regularly drank red wine with half wate (50%). The Russian added that their submarine crews drink red wine every night. She also advised that avoid mushrooms, which absorb contaminations. We Japanese eat lots of seaweed, which contains iodide.

A small NGO group in Sapporo, have been inviting children around the area of Chernobyl for summer-health-improving-home stay since the incident. Those children were born after the blast yet the effects to their health are seen.

Northernlight,
I wonder which chemical in red wine blocks radiation?

It's polyphenol. Not only radiation but to this substance is good for protecting your immune system. Polyphenol can be found in other vegetable and blue berries. Something blue or black.

Today I talked with a Lithuanian lady living in Sapporo with her Lithuanian family, who was 20 when 1986 Chernobyl accident happened in Ukraine. At that time, those three Baltic countries were under the Soviet regime. No news issued from Soviet on the blast. It was only a week after the incident that they learnt the fact from BBC and other radio broadcasting. During the time, my Lithuanian friend told me the TV programs were only theirs and Soviets. There were no satellite broadcasting at that time. She and her husband now have two sons born after the incident; 22 and 10. No health trouble in the family. The husband is a physicist, Ph.D and is a good source of information on nuclear staff for us now.
@Dava-san, will confirm the substance good for blocking.
