Columbus, GA: Insurance gaint Aflac has fired actor and comedian Gilbert Gottfried following some very insensitive tweets he posted following fridays devasting 8.9 earthquake and tsunami. Gottfried was notified by his managment agency monday that his services would no longer be need. The termination came after corporate individuals of Aflac found tweets that Gottfried had posted on his twitter account poking fun at the devestation left in the wake of the Japanese disaster. Some of his tweets included statements such as:
"Japan is really advanced. They don't go to the beach it comes to them."
"I just split up with my girlfriend, but like the Japanese say, "They'll be another one floating by any minute now".
His tweets continued and in the eyes of many have been viewed as tasteless and offensive. Aflac has employed Gottfried since 2000 as the Aflac duck. Aflac is a Columbus, Georgia based company which is also one of Japans largest insurers. The company employs more than 5,000 people in Japan. Aflac has been in business in Japan for nearly 40 years. Prior to his termination Gottfried has appeared in 52 commercials for the insurance gaint. After his termination Aflac announced that it would be pulling the commercials in which Gottfried's voice was used as the duck.
