(Free-Press-Release.com) March 11, 2011 -- TAMPA, FL – Heather Hennessy Howell, wife of Tampa Bay Rays’ pitcher J.P. Howell, is speaking out on the bullying epidemic with her recently-released inspiring children's book series named of Dangles after President and First Lady Michelle Obama’s led the first-ever White House Conference on Bullying Prevention yesterday to address bullying and the role of our schools and communities to create safer environments for kids.
In The Adventures of Dangles series, the stories center around critical issues for kids today, and this first book Dangles introduces kids to the main character Dangles and focuses on bullying. Dangles is inspired from a stuffed animal Heather received from J.P., and the book shares the tales of their true-life adventures and travels shared with the beloved monkey.
"Using Dangles, a stuffed monkey that travels everywhere with us, I am able to make tough issues easier for kids to discuss, because I speak to them through the eyes of Dangles," Heather Howell said.
Some 13 million students, about a third of all those attending school, are bullied every year, according to the White House. Experts say that puts them at greater risk of falling behind in their studies, abusing drugs or alcohol, or suffering mental or other health problems. Kids who are seen as different because of their race, clothes, disability or sexual orientation are more likely to be bullied.
"When someone puts you down, ignores you, bullies you, or is just always trying to cause drama to your life, it’s because they aren’t happy within themselves,” explained Heather Howell. “As they say 'hurt people – hurt people', and I feel that if we can take that power away from those bullies by answering in love, we can help kids build a stronger future."
J.P. and Heather founded the Discover Your Path Foundation and together they reach out to kids with the message of love and faith in getting them to discover and walk their best path.
