The famous Philippine television show from TV 5, Talentadong Pinoy, recently crowned visual artist, aptly dubbed as Joseph the Artist, as 2011 Ultmate Talentadong Pinoy last March 13, 2011. At stake for this contest held at the Ynares Center in Antipolo is a (transferrable) college scholarship, a brand new Chevrolet Cruze and Php1 million. With this, he will represent the Philippines in a contest in Hollywood.
A husband and a father, Joseph hails from Laguna. A polio victim, Joseph helps his wife put food on the table by driving a tricycle.
With his unique talent, Joseph makes visual impressions using nothing but his hands and sand. A translucent table, lit underneath, serves as his canvass or storyboard. He illustrates stories by manipulating sand to draw a picture with his hands and constantly changes them as if one scene moves to another like in a motion picture.
For this contest, his piece illustrated the life of man from birth, experiencing happiness, love, pain, hardship, violence and finally death. Judges were bowled over and overwhelmed by emotions that some of them found it hard to talk after his performance.
Joseph went against 8 other contestants who were equally talented and excellent in their crafts but it was this visual artist from Laguna who got the thumbs up from the judges and the viewing public's votes.
