Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia - 13 March 2011
The Denmark pair of Mathias Boe and Carsten Mogensen won their maiden All-England title when they defeated Koo Kien Keat and Tan Boon Heong of Malaysia 15-21, 21-18, 21-18.
The 5th seeded Malaysian pair won the first game 21-15 and led in the second set but the Danes lifted their game to take the game 21-18 to tie the match. The rubber game was another close tie but Boe and Morgensen kept their composure and won 21-18.
In the semi-final, the Danish pair were on top of their game too, overcoming a strong challenge from China’s Chai-Biao-Guo Zhengdong to prevail 26-24, 21-12.
Meanwhile, in the women's singles final, top-seeded Wang Shixian of China regained the All-England Open women's singles title for her country. The title is China's seventh in ten years.
Wang defeated unseeded Eriko Hirose of Japan 24-22, 21-18 in Sunday's final. Her speed and big match experience proved crucial especially in the first game when Hirose held game points at 20-19 and 21-20.
However Hirose, the first Japanese women's singles finalist for 32 years at the All-England, will take consolation in putting on a good show to cheer a nation that is grieving after Fridays' quake and tsunami.
