A recent poll has shown that 60 percent of Americans oppose weakening the bargaining rights of public workers

The Firefighters Local 311 has been urging members to withdraw their money from the M and I bank in Madison. Executives and board members were among the highest donors to Scott Walker's campaign. Walker is the governor of Wisconsin who recently signed a law that will remove bargaining rights from most state workers.

Some reports put the amount withdrawn so far as high as 192,000 but union members have withdrawn over 100,000. Withdrawals were heavy enough that the bank closed early at 3 PM.

Apparently M&I bank received over a billion in bailout money from TARP. However the bank was acquired by Canadian Bank of Montreal in December 2010 according to blogger Dane101.

According to an update the withdrawal amount has grown to $600,000. Perhaps the Canadian owners will not be happy that the directors of the bank gave to a politician with the result that they lose over half a million in deposits!

Thanks for the report North.

This is a great example of passive resistence. Praises to the firefighters of Local 311.

M&I might be reconsidering its stance regarding Walker and the GOP. Check out the reception Walker got yesterday when he and several of his wealthy backers showed up at M&I corporate headquarters in Milwaukee: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mb_WDmiWvNs
