While at low to moderate risk of a tsunami because of our geographical location, there are areas of the city, which could be impacted in the event of a tsunami. It's estimated that here in Nanaimo we could see a 1 to 2 meter rise. This could result in minor flooding in low lying areas. Residents need to be aware of changes to currents.

Nanaimo residents are asked to stay away from the water and to keep children and teens areway as well. Well the excitement of a potential tsunami may perk ones curiosity to go near the water, it is best to remain far away.

City of Nanaimo recomments.

Having a 72-hour emergency kit in your home will enhance your ability to survive in emergency events in the community. If possible, the City of Nanaimo recommends preparing for 7 days. This map shows areas of concern in the City of Nanaimo in a tsunami event
