South Korea has decided to investigate complaints by Chinese women that they were sexually abused in exchange for visas.

Officials from Seoul have gone to China to investigate the sex-for-favours scandal.

At the South Korean consulate in Shanghai, diplomats allegedly gave women work visas in exchange for sex.

A complaint was raised when the husband of a 33-year-old Chinese woman wrote to the South Korean government to expose an alleged incident.

Three South Korean diplomats are suspected of having affairs with the same Chinese woman who was supposedly able to use her influence to secure visas and the private phone numbers of South Korean government personnel.
