A strike could spell misery for thousands of BA travellers in the run-up to the Easter holiday season

The airport staff of Spain is planning to proceed on a long vacation – a 22- day strike from 20th April spread right up to July to press for their demands. The strike is apparently in protest of the privatization AENA, the state controlled airport authority. It employs 12,500 persons and once they go on strike, the flights to and from Canary Islands would be seriously affected. And – Canary Islands happen to be a favorite holiday destination. The strikers would include the baggage handlers, firemen and also the staff of the ATC. In case the strike does happen, not only travelers but also low cost carries like Ryanair would feel the heat. Usually a huge lot of Britons go to Spain to spend their holidays and the number was over 28 million last year. The strike would obviously hit the tourist trade very badly and the authorities must ensure that the strike is called off.

The strike is scheduled to take effect from Easter Holidays – therefore, those planning to holiday during the Easters must look either for alternative destinations or alternative mode of travel.

During this strike period, the traveling public would be put to great inconvenience – hence, a word of caution for all travelers. Better to drop Spain from your travel itineraries to avoid disappointment. Be thankful that it is not a flash strike but one that has been declared well in advance and tells people to be prepared and not be caught unawares.
