A good looking Korean TV/Film star(28) said goodbye to his some 2500 fans including many from Japan to start training at Korean Marine Corp on 7th yesterday. He has voluntarily signed up for the toughest military force of Korea to protect his south land from the northern threat for two years. He is best known by his TV drama 'My name is Kim Sam Soon' (2005) and ' ' (2010)
The outbreak for 'Ikemen', good looking, Korean stars emerged in 2003 when NHK (National Broadcasting Corporation) televised a drama, 'Winter Sonata' in short in Japanese 冬ソナ in 2003, which become a smashing hit and become a national phenomena in Japan.(38), the main actor become so hot and caught tons of hearts of young and old Japanese ladies(but not me). Poor Japanese male stars, at that time had completely lost their glory behind Yong-sama (this is how he is called here; sama shows the best respect). Following Yong-sama, many Ikemen(cool looking) Korean male actors set the fire in the hearts of so many Japanese women. The feverish phenomenon has been melting and breaking ice lying between two countries in our ill-fated historical relationship. Japan occupied and colonized Korea 1910-1945. When some nation controls over other nation, often there arises discrimination and superior/inferior complexes. Japan imposed Japanese on Korean people in their land. After Korea acquired her independence from Japan, they had banned Japanese cultural influence in the form such as songs and movies. When I visited S. Korea in 2001, we were not allowed to sing Japanese songs freely there.
Kim Tae-jing, the 15th President of Korea (1998-2003) once said, that making ONE good film is better than manufacturing millions of cars. True indeed here in Japan.
