Mumbai slum fire: Slumdog star loses home

Cable News Network reports from New Delhi India. "Slumdog Millionaire" actress Rubina Ali 12, said her house was destroyed by a fire that tore through her Mumbai slum Friday.

Ali told CNN Sunday "There was fire everywhere, there was so much chaos, my house was completely burned down, the whole slum was burned down." Ali was watching television when she said her neighbors yelled "Fire, fire."

Ali grabbed everything she could get her hands on and ran out of her home.

Ali said "But my awards are gone, my memories are gone."

Ali was talking about the numerous awards she won playing the character Latkia in the motion picture Slumdog Millionaire. Ali said her family is now living in a temporary shelter.

Rafiq Quershi, Ali's dad said the family plans to move into a new home in April provided by a trust fund provided by the Slumdog Millionaire director Danny Boyle.

Tri Ho Trust trustee Nirja Mattoo confirmed Ali and her family were living in the Garin Nagar slum when the fire started.

Mattoo said "Our social worker has been meeting with Ali and her family and assessing the situation. They lost everything except for an LCD TV and some clothes."

Ali said she is grateful for the support she and her family have received from the trust fund.
