At least 6,000 people have been killed since the uprising against the government of Moammar Qaddafi erupted two weeks ago.

"The death toll across the country numbering about 6,000 people," said Ali Zeidan, a spokesman for nongovernmental organizations (NGOs) Libyan League for Human Rights, on Wednesday (03/02/2011).

NGO activists had dared to speak openly to reporters, but in Paris, France. He said the death toll included 3,000 people in the capital, Tripoli; 2,000 people in Benghazi, Libya's second city of rebel-held, and 1,000 more in other cities.
