Someone needed to be the first to bring the American Idol audience to its feet. That someone was Pia Toscano on Wednesday night’s American Idol show.Pia Toscano sang I’ll Stand By You, which has also covered and sang as part of an American Idol finale. Pia had big shoes to fill when she chose this song! But, she did a fabulous job with it and got the first standing ovation of American Idol 2011.You can watch Pia Toscano’s I’ll Stand By You hereFor one thing, not one of these girls seemed the least bit nervous on the big stage. Sure, there were a couple of rather discordant performances (Ty-Tynisa Wilson’s take on ’s “Only Girl in the World” for one), but overall, the girls owned the boys in this round. What’s interesting is the mix of styles we saw from the girls. Like jazz? Naima Adedapo brought it home with her rendition of “Summertime” and Lauren Turner nailed the classic “Seven Day Fool.” How about a little Broadway? Rachel Zevita’s “Criminal” filled that bill.
