Border Patrol Kill Man Attacking a Deputy with a Hammer in Washington State, USA

"I just thank God that our deputy survived this attack," said Sheriff Bill Elfo.

Monday morning law enforcement shot and killed a man with a history of mental problems in Lynden, WA. Whatcom County Sheriff's deputies and border patrol officers were involved.

Alex Martinez age 30 was smashing out windows in his mobile home in rural Whatcom County when neighbors called 911.

Martinez allegedly ran out of the home swinging a hammer as law enforcement arrived. Reportedly he attacked one of the deputies.

A taser was fired by one deputy while the border patrol fired their weapons killing Martinez. Its not clear exactly which one fired the fatal shot.

Blunt force trauma injury was announced as the condition of the deputy hit by Martinez with the hammer. Saint Joseph Hospital in Bellingham, WA are not considering the deputies injuries life threatening.
