A pirate boat in the Gulf of Aden off Somalia

A Danish familyof five and two employees, sailing in a yacht for a two- year tour around the world, making stops in South America, the Caribbean, Fiji and Thailand, and most recently, setting sail from Maldives to South Africa, has been kidnapped by Somali pirates when they reached the Indian ocean, abcNews reported.

Danish foreign minister Lene Espersen said the family, which included two children on board, a boy and a girl aged 12 to 16, were being closely monitored by Danish authorities, but declined to comment further for reason they did not want the case to be publicized.

A Danish warship, part of NATO’s anti piracy operation, was said to be in the region to help the kidnapped family.

On February 22, Somali pirates have killed four Americans on board their yacth when naval authorities launched a rescue operation.
