Veteran singer Malaysia Vasudevan passed away due to cardiac arrest at the age of 66 on February 20, 2011 at around 1:00 pm in Chennai, Tamilnadu. He was born on June 15, 1944, in Malaysia. In his entire career, Vasudevan lent his voice in near 8,000 Tamil songs. He also sang more than 4,000 songs in other South Indian languages. Malaysia Vasudevan sang several songs for Superstar Rajinikanth.

Among them, Ennama Kannu Sowkiyama (Mr. Bharat), Singamondru Purapattadhe (Arunachalam), Yejaman Kaladi Manneduthu (Yejaman), Agaya gangai,oru thanga rathathil (Dharma Yutham) are few superhit numbers. Vasudevan also acted in several Tamil films. “Mudhal Vasantham”, “Oomai Vizhigal”, “Kathanayagan”, “Jallikattu” , “Thiruda Thiruda” and “Oru Kaidhiyin Diary” are few examples where he explored his acting skills. His son Yugendran Vasudevan Nair and daughter Prashanthini are also playback singers. Yugendran also acted in several Tamil and other South Indian films like his father.

Some of Malaysia Vasudevan’s superhit songs are Kovil mani oosai thannai (Kizakke pogum rail), Attukkutti muttayittu (16 Vayathinile), Sevvnthi poomudicha (16 Vayathinile), Monalisa Monalisa (Mr. Romeo), Aathu mettula oru paattu kekkuthu (Giramaththu athiyayam), Aanatha then katru thalttuthe (Manippoor mamiyar), Koodalooru gundumalli, kootathula kuninji (Kumbakkarai Thangaiya), Kaathal vaibohame kaanum nannalile(Suvar illatha sithirangal), Vaa vaa vasanthame sugam tharum (pudhu kavidhai) etc. Music composer A R Rahman expressed his condolence over his death. In his Twitter page Rahman commented "Malaysia Vasudevan Sir, Rest In Peace... You were one of the few who believed in me and gave me my first break as a music producer for the album 'Disco Disco' in 1987 (sic)." Rajinikanth and many celebrities attended Vasudevan’s funeral to bid him final good-bye.
