At least six people were killed and two wounded in an attack by an unmanned U.S. drone in the Pakistani tribal region of South Waziristan (west). The spy plane fired three missiles last night, hitting a house in the village of Panga, some 15 kilometers from the main city in the region, Wana, according to an intelligence source quoted by the private channel Geo TV.
According to security sources consulted by Efe, these attacks on suspected targets of the Taliban or Al Qaeda are often based on precise information on the ground and to make an implicit agreement with the Pakistani side.
Although U.S. manned aircraft regularly operate in the Pakistani tribal belt, this is the first attack since, in late January, an American killed two suspected robbers in the Pakistani city of Lahore in a case that has strained bilateral relations.
