Blueshirt MacCunty smiled as he went into the back room with loosened belt, after a moment there was the the sounds of coarse slobbering as he was eating with the help of his hand. The Sargeant invited me to sit in his company and offered a wrinkled cigar from his torn trouser pocket.

'Tis a lucky thing your ould fella is lost,' he said, 'Tis a divil of a thing when the trouble of the oulde teeth get in the way. The sicknesses of Ireland come from bad teeth ye know!.' 'Determined to say as little as possible to these Blueshirt heavy gang, letting them show their hands first and see what they were made of before dealing with them.
